M Martin OM-45 Tasmanian Blackwood · No. 29 of 31 · 19 photographs

Est. 1833 · Nazareth, Pennsylvania

Founded by C.F. Martin in 1833, Martin is the oldest surviving guitar maker in the world — the firm that gave the flat-top its modern form through X-bracing and the dreadnought. Nearly two centuries on, it remains family-owned and the benchmark for the American acoustic.

About

These instruments were not acquired. They were arrived at — through decades of playing, listening, and the occasional conversation with the people who built them.

TheFinerStrings is a record of that journey. Some of these guitars are still here. Some have moved on to other hands. All of them deserved to be seen properly.
